Video Editing with Delta Senior School Students using ClipChamp!

Introduction

On 18th May 2019, I came to school at 8.30 am to set up computers to prepare for the video editing. We also made the necessary preparations such as distributing user guides for the video editing software called ClipChamp before the arrival of the Delta Senior School students. My classmates went to the atrium to welcome the students while I waited nervously in the computer lab. I didn't know if I am prepared to handle Gabriel due to his unique condition, which is mentioned in my previous blog. When they arrived, I looked around and tried to find him, but he was no where to be found.

Unexpected Situation

Turns out, Gabriel did not come for the video editing session. I was a little bit disappointed but couldn’t help feeling relief at the same time. I was disappointed because I had prepared things for him but he would not have the chance to experience this session of video editing. When we were waiting for the students to come into the classroom, I was worried about interacting with him and all the problems that may arise. The sense of relief came as all the worries seemed to go away when I was informed that he will not be coming, but at the same time accompanied with a bit of guiltiness as I know it is not right to feel it that way. This brought up a point where we should not be avoiding this problem as there a lot of people out there who are just like them. Instead, we can do something in our ability and skills that we learnt in school to help them. This made me reflect on the possibilities that IT can bring to help these people.

Therefore, I went to join the other group, Jia Le and his partner Yu Xuan. Yu Xuan is easier to teach, and we completed the video in no time. Through this session, we hope that the students know how to video edit so that they will be equipped with the skills to make their own videos in the future, and to record the story of their life in the form of videos.

Conclusion

Overall, this is an enriching experience. For academic purposes, I have learnt the basics of video editing skills, using ClipChamp. In terms of personal growth, I think that we should spare a thought for the people who needed special aids, and as real or future IT professionals, I feel that we can make use of the IT knowledge we have and if possible, come up with something that can help them or bring convenience to them.
